The RainTree Vision

As the nation’s leading community oncology alliance, RainTree Oncology Services assists our member practices in achieving better and more cost effective treatment of oncology patients while creating new streams of revenue for community oncology practices through:

  • Negotiating and administering favorable GPO contracts;
  • Creating a unique aggregated data compilation and analytic platform allowing RainTree members to develop and evaluate care pathways to improve patient care and outcomes while reducing costs to the health care system; and
  • Developing commercial relationships accelerating innovative oncology treatments and payer arrangements while optimizing oncology patient care and advancing the science of oncology.

Our Management Team

The management team of RainTree Oncology Services is comprised of respected professionals whose years of experience is applied to managing the dynamic and complex issues confronting community oncology practices today.

Michael Martin
President and Chief Executive Officer

Michael Martin, whose industry experience spans more than 25 years, was President of International Oncology Network, a division of AmerisourceBergen, from 2005 to 2009. His prior experience exemplifies his broad healthcare expertise – having served as Chief Executive Officer of Tensys Medical, a venture-backed medical device company focused on non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems, and as an Executive Vice President at Premier, the country’s largest hospital Group Purchasing Organization. Martin also previously held senior management positions at GE Medical Systems. Martin holds a BA degree from West Liberty State College.

Jeff Patton, MD
Chief Medical Officer

In addition to his duties with RainTree Oncology Services, Jeff Patton, MD, serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for Nashville-based Tennessee Oncology, the country’s 2nd largest independent community oncology practice. Dr. Patton also is the Chairman of the Oncology Committee and Chief of Staff at Southern Hills Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Previously, Dr. Patton served on the Physician Advisory Board for International Oncology Network, a division of AmerisourceBergen. He currently serves on the Executive Boards of the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Dr. Patton received a BA from the University of Virginia and an MD from the Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Patton completed his residency and fellowship at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

John Creelman
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

John Creelman brings RainTree more than 20 years of senior financial management experience in large enterprises as well as emerging-growth companies. His expertise encompasses corporate finance, mergers and acquisition, and operations. Creelman has served as Chief Financial Officer for numerous early stage enterprises including ID Analytics, a provider of hosted SAAS solutions for financial services and telecomm industries, and Copper Mountain Networks, a manufacturer of DSL systems. During his tenure at Copper Mountain, he managed finance and administrative functions as revenues climbed from product launch to $290 million in just three years. Additionally, he led Copper Mountain’s successful IPO in 1999. Creelman also held senior management positions at Western Digital Corporation. Creelman holds BA and MBA degrees from the University of California at Irvine.

John Dempsey
President, Pharmaceutical Services

John Dempsey joins RainTree with more than 30 years of pharmaceutical medical industry experience. During this time, he has acquired deep industry and supply chain expertise while demonstrating strong leadership and innovation in building life science companies. Before joining RainTree, Dempsey was Vice President of the Strategic Customer Group and member of the Management Board for Johnson & Johnson’s North American Pharmaceutical Business. In prior leadership positions for Ortho Biotech, Dempsey led the company’s strategic direction to ensure the safety of the Biologic supply chain. He has worked with numerous government agencies and has testified before the Surgeon General’s Task Force on Importation. He began his pharmaceutical career as a sales representative for Eli Lilly.

Brian Battey
Senior Vice President of Member Services

Brian Battey brings more than 25 years of broad healthcare experience to RainTree in both large complex organizations as well as start-up/growth companies. His expertise spans payer, pharmaceutical, capital equipment, information technology and both specialty and hospital group purchasing organizations. His past leadership is recognized as Chief Operating Officer in an award winning start-up electronic health record company as well as senior leadership positions at GE Healthcare, US Oncology and International Oncology Network, a division of AmerisourceBergen. Most recently Brian served as Senior Vice President Strategy and Operations for Aetna Accountable Care Solutions. Brian is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and received a BA degree from The University of Rhode Island.

Scott Skellenger
Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Scott Skellenger joins RainTree with more than 15 years in information technology leadership roles in the health and life sciences industry. Scott is progressive in the adoption of new technologies and organizational models where leverage and business differentiation can be obtained. During his career, Scott has led global IT/IS functions at Amgen and Illumina. While at Illumina, he provided key vision and leadership in the development of commercial IT solutions aimed at simplifying the computational needs of production-scale genomic sequencing. Scott has held various technical and leadership positions in information services ranging from M&A integration to infrastructure operations to strategic planning and architecture. Scott earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems and Master’s Degree in Business Administration from California Lutheran University.

The RainTree management team is supplemented and guided by an eminently respected, highly influential group of professionals whose vast, collective expertise in oncology and related medical matters is respected throughout the industry.

Ongoing access to the leadership and insight of these key opinion leaders ensures that RainTree will be vigilantly focused on its mission of assuring the continued vitality of community oncology practices and the advancing of the science of cancer care. Meeting monthly, the Advisory Board is integrally involved in the business decisions of RainTree, while also shaping the clinical direction for the alliance. Advisory Board members are committed to improving oncology care and outcomes and ensuring the vitality of community oncology as the primary source of that care.
